Pisces Sportfishing Fleet Report September 12-19, 2024
Baja’s first storm of the year, Tropical Storm Ileana, arrived in Cabo with winds to 40 kts along with heavy rain, causing the Port Captain to close the Port on Friday and Saturday. Ileana then traveled up to Loreto before moving over to the Mexican coast.
The Pisces Fleet resumed fishing on Sunday, and the few boats that ventured out found conditions unchanged from the preceding week. The catches throughout the remainder of the week improved, offering a diverse range of species. More Yellowfin Tuna in the 100-pound class for the few boats targeting them, more Billfish, Dorado, and a few more Wahoo made it an interesting and varied week for fishing enthusiasts. Plus, a few Tuna weighing over 140 pounds kept the week exciting.
September 13 to 19. Catch success rate 87.23 %
All species combined comprise 87.23% Billfish, 36.17% Dorado 57.45%, Tuna 53.19%, and Other 17.02%.
“VALERIE” a 35-foot Bertram with Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores running the show, took Aric Duran, Damon Hirschensohn, Gary Shuman, Nick Ashjian, and Nick Tuffanelli, also from Camarillo, California, to the Arcos Spot where they caught an equally exciting mix of Five Dorado in the 10 to 15-pound class, Four Yellowfin Tuna in the 10 Pound Range and One Wahoo weighing around 35 pounds all on bait. Both California groups left the boats smiling and happy with their choices.
Cindy Tanner, Matthew Tanner, Melissa Garner, Ross Tanner, and Shani Tanner from Camarillo, California, took the “LA BRISA,” a 31-foot Bertram with Captain Ray Winkler and Mate Jesus Winkler in charge, out for a day of fishing on the Arcos Spot. They caught and released One Striped Marlin weighing 120 pounds, Four 8 to 12-pound Dorado, and Two Yellowfin Tuna in the 10-pound range, all on bait. It had been precisely the kind of fishing day they had hoped for!
Captain Hector with Mate Joel on the 37-foot Viking 2018, the”BBII,” ran straight to the 95 Spot for One 12-pound Dorado and Five Yellowfin Tuna from 10 to 40 pounds, all caught or released on bait by Brian Dobson and Paul Marable from Connecticut.

Captain “Erick” Orozco – Captain Erick keeps his boat in top shape and takes pride in finding fish for the angler, no matter their target. He has been fishing professionally since 1990 and is originally from Cabo San Lucas. He smiles often. He lives and breathes fishing, and when he’s not out on a charter, his favorite thing to do is… FISH!
