“A Good Way to Fall into Fall”
There is no doubt about it: Summer is slipping away. However, it seems to be leaving behind excellent fishing conditions, which the following weeks’ recap attests to. If Dorado, Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Striped Marlin, and Blue Marlin are on your wish list, Welcome to Paradise!

All species combined comprise 98.67% Billfish, 34.67% Dorado 66.67%, Tuna 66.67%, and Other 9.33% 17.02%.
The “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Abel and Mate Jose Luis, began their Fall at a slow pace at the San Jaime with a group from Fullerton, California – Jaxon Willis, Jean Necas, and Kevin Willis – who caught Four Dorado in the 15-pound range on bait, and Six 20-pound Yellowfin Tuna also on bait in the same area.
Also from California, Bruno DePaula, Doug Latulippe, and Mark Sullivan chose the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Beto Lira and Mate Jesus Romero, who ran to the San Jaime to get his anglers One released Striped Marlin on bait, and Four Yellowfin Tuna weighing around 20 pounds, also on bait. Captain Alberto Beto Lira recently took on the post aboard this vessel, where he apprenticed as a deckhand for seven years. Beto had already taken the Ruthless to another level, getting rave reviews from Pisces’ clients. He has brought new energy to the boat, showing off his fishing skills and dedication to customer service. Beto goes out of his way to take care of his guests.
On the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Julio Castro and Mate Tracy Ann Raul Leal, and anglers Cecilia and Chad Beach, and Rick and Teri Norman caught Eight Yellowfin Tuna on bait and Released One Blue Marlin. While it put up quite a fight, it was a fun day, and they were eager to give it a go again!
The “VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram run by Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores with anglers Carl and Tina Forget, and Kamila and Kyle McKrow catching One 15-pound Dorado on bait and Released One Sailfish on bait 2 to 3 miles from del Cerro kicked off only a Half-Day competition between the two couples. They had an exciting day of fishing.
Alex and Alexis Kaliniak, Brandon Greene, Breece Johnson, Bryan Deily, Chris Manfredini, Claire Busch, Matthew Martinez, and Patrick Halbert from California chartered the “LA CHINGONA 2,” a 64-foot Viking for HALF-DAY with Captain Miguel and Mates Francisco and Antonio, Jr. caught Ten Yellowfin Tuna from 20 to 60 pounds on lures and kites at the Cabrillo. It was a busy, fun half-day!
“FRIDAY BANK,” a 66-foot Viking, run by Captain Alex and Mates Saul and Beto, with their California group Christopher J. Ryan, Greg Hodgeman, John B. Peppers, John Long, Matthew G. Baker, Nicholas M. Wagner, and William Dwiggins caught One 12-pound Dorado on a lure at the 95 Spot and Seven Yellowfin Tuna weighing from 19 to 51 pounds on lures also at the 95 Spot.
The 62-foot Viking, “CHASIN TAIL,” with Captain Pepe and Mates Ulises and Hamo running the boat, headed to the Cabrillo Mount where they were happy to find their group Collin and Joanne Stremich, Mark Stremich, and Samantha Brissard Two Striped Marlin which they released and One Blue Marlin which they also released, and Eight Yellowfin Tuna up to 40 pounds on lures. This was the kind of fishing day the group hoped to have!
Ron and Wendy Thomas, from Mesquite, Texas, chartered the 28-foot Uniflite, “ANDREA,” with Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo D. running the boat to the Rancho San Lucas Spot, where they hit the jackpot. They came away with One Released Striped Marlin, Seven Released Dorado in the 15-pound range also on bait, Four Yellowfin Tuna from 15 to 50 pounds on bait, and One Skipjack around 2 or 3 pounds on bait, all in the same area. Two happy anglers were departing that day!
The “REBECCA,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Jose Ramon Alucano at the helm and Mate Carlos (El Acomedido – the people pleaser) with the group on board, Ana Juárez Rodríguez, Andrea Juárez Rodriguez, and Andres Juárez catching Three Dorado in the 15-pound range and Ten Yellowfin Tuna weighing up to 40 pounds all on bait and Two Sailfish, 30 miles from the 140 Spot, these excellent fighting fish joining in the battles with their beautiful acrobatics, a sight to behold.
Diane Taylor, Jim Pederson, Richard Taylor, and Tammy Pederson from California chartering the “LA CHINGONA,” a46-foot Viking, Captain Antonio Bojorquez, and Mate Luis ran to the 1150 Spot where they were able to catch Nine Yellowfin Tuna that weighed from 20 to 86 pounds on bait and the kite. They released One Blue Marlin, which is all in the same area. The Blue was a strong adversary that took a while to release, but the anglers were happy to have checked that one off their list!
“TIBURON,” a28-foot Bertram, with Captain Rosendo Gomez and Mate Carlos Santos, with John Hogoboom, Richard Wilcox, and Roberta Ruiz, managed to catch and Reléase One Striped Marlin, One 128-pound Yellowfin Tuna on bait and One 14-pound Dorado on a lure all at the Orilla de San Jaime. The anglers couldn’t have asked for more exciting fish to enjoy.
Bert and Rachel Farrisanglers on the “MY WAY,” a 45-foot Viking, with Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue were able to find one 15-pound Dorado on a lure at the 120 Spot and Twelve Yellowfin Tuna up to 40-pounds on bait and kite also at the 120 Spot.
“BILL COLLECTOR,” a 32-foot Cabo Express, Captain Nicolar and Mate Erick, and their guests Fion Wood, Jason Dubose, and Mark Mocevich from South Carolina, released.
Six are in the 12-pound range, Dorado on bait, and one 25-pound Wahoo Rapala, both at Pozo Cota.
Mp Brad Hair, Curtis Salisbury, Duncan Cornell, Jason Dubose, and Wendy Salisbury from South Carolina chartered the “BILL COLLECTOR II,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, Captain Juan Carlos and Mate Cuate who took their guests to the San Jaime Bank where they caught Nine Yellowfin Tuna from 30 to 142 pounds on bait and Six Skipjack from 1 to 2 pounds at the MARGARITA Bank.
Captain Abel at the helm and Mate Martin running the cockpit of the “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, helped their guests Bill Dowley, Gil Jacobo, Jason Dubose, Jay Parr, and Scott Scheer from South Carolina, catch One 15-pound Dorado on bait at the 1150 Spot, and Five 30 to 100-pound Yellowfin Tuna on bait and kite at the 1150 Spot.
“REEL PRIMOS,” a 38-foot Blackfin with Captain Ismael and Mate Abraham, headed to the 150 Spot with guests James Ware, Jason Dubose, Jason Dobson, and “Nate” Nathan from South Carolina, where they caught Four 20-pound Dorado on bait and One 48-pound Wahoo on a Rapala all at the 150 Spot.
“C ROD,” a 38-foot Blackfin, with Captain Daniel and Mate Joel, helped their group Allison Burch, Carol Crotts, Jason Dubose, John Crotts, Ken Burch, Wesley Joseph, and Zack Burch from South Carolina, catch and Release One Striped Marlin at the Faro Bank, Two 15-pound Dorado on bait at the Faro, and Two 12-pound Tuna, also at the Faro on bait.
Captain Julio Castro and Mate TracyAnn Raul Leal running the “TRACY ANN,” a 31-foot Bertram, took their solo angler, Dave Smith, Duncanville, Dallas, Texas, to the Cabrillo Bank where he caught Five Yellowfin Tuna to 80 pounds on lures and bait, and One Striped Marlin on bait. He walked away from the boat, a very happy angler!
The group of Aaron Stahl, Daniel Venson, David Becker, Mauricio Fonseca, and Tyler Flory on the “MY WAY,” a 45-foot Viking, had a wonderful day with Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue when they caught and released Sixteen Yellowfin Tuna from 25 to 45-pounds on bait at the 120 Spot and were lucky enough to catch and release One Blue Marlin at that same spot. The weather was fine, and the fishing was better. What more could they ask for?
