Wow! The first week in June delivers not one, but Two Blue Marlin caught and released to kick off the “2024 BIG GAME FISHING SEASON” in Los Cabos.

The fish were released in a healthy state, just three miles offshore in the Cerro Colorado area on Monday; seventy-six-year-old Peter Gelfand from California took just 20 minutes to release this beauty on a 60-pound test in 83-degree water on a Verde con Negro Cerro lure that weighed around 200 pounds.
The “BILL COLLECTOR  II,” Captain Lopez ran the 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, and Mate Martinez oversaw the cockpit.

In his three days aboard the Pisces Boat, Bill Collector II, a 35-foot Cabo, Peter, and his group released 11 Striped Marlin, One Blue Marlin, One Shark, Four Dorado, and Two Roosterfish. Fishing is HOT! ….Tracy Ehrenberg

TEJAS,” a 42-foot Yellowfin with Captain Francisco at the helm fishing with Daryl Pruski, Michelle Reynolds, and Mrs. Shannon Reynolds from Corpus Christi, Texas, never dreamed that their sportfishing trip on Wednesday would end up on the front page throughout the Baja Fishing News and beyond. Fishing on the 1150 Bank, the striped marlin hotspot, they released One Blue Marlin, an estimated 250 pounds on a Ballyhoo, and One Silky Shark, an estimated weight of 60 pounds on a Ballyhoo.

Captain Julio Castro and Mate Raul Leal, running the “TRACY ANN,” a31-foot Bertram for angler Erik Norrie, spent their day close to shore in front of the Westin Regina trolling live mullet. They produced an exciting collection of surface fish, including One Dorado, Two 20-pound Roosterfish, and One large Jack Crevalle weighing approximately twenty-five pounds.

While Captain Osiel and Mates Joel and Gil set the “BBII,” the 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018 up on the 1150 Spot for the day with Debby Putnam, Donald Putnam, Kendall Putnam Carr, Kennedy Putnam, Ryan Carr, and Sam Putnam all from Newport Richey,  Florida, waiting for the action which began a short while after they arrived. It continued sporadically throughout the day as they hooked multiple billfish at once using fresh Ballyhoo while trolling. A couple here, a couple there, and the gang had a blast!!! They couldn’t count how many they released on both hands! By the end of the day, their total released was a remarkable 13-striped marlin in the 80 to 120-pound class. 

Not far away, the “HOT ROD,” a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge with Captain Erick Orozco and Mate Hot Rod Jose Ramiro Ramirez with Ken Sacks from Nashville, Tennessee, also had 13 Striped Marlin released estimated to weigh 80 to 130-pounds, to his credit, using both fresh Ballyhoo and caballito for bait.

“LA BRISA” on the31-foot Bertram with Captain Ray Winkler and Mate Jesus Winkler assisted anglers Lucas Flynn and Nathaly Burny in releasing Five Striped Marlin that weighed from 100 to 120 pounds, Two Dorado weighing approximately 15 pounds and a One Hundred Pound Silky Shark all on Ballyhoo at the 1150 Spot.

“SPEEDWELL,” a38-foot Mediterranean and Captain Victor Piranha with Mate Sandez Fernando Castro fishing at the 1150 Spot, had a mixed bag for Gordon Pratt, including Three Striped Marlin from 100 to 120 pounds caught on Ballyhoo, plus One Dorado and a 30-pound Wahoo caught on a lure.

helped John and Trey Schoenfield from Mississippi release four Roosterfish weighing 10 to 15 pounds and one Jack Crevalle weighing around 15 pounds on live Lisas (mullet) at Solmar.

All were caught on caballito at the 1150 Spot.

Christopher B. Nash, Christopher L. Nash, Reid Kleck, and Sydney Stiehl released Six Marlin weighing 80 to 120 pounds on fresh Ballyhoo, plus a Dorado, all at the 1150 Spot on the "ANDREA" with Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Arcelo.

On the "YAHOO," 42-foot Bertram with Captain Ricardo Escamilla-Yahoo and Mate Jose Escamilla-Yahoo with anglers Bryon Hatrel,  Kevin Stierwald, Lyle Simoneaux,  and Richard Kernion, Jr., all from Louisiana, released Five Striped Marlin

On the “YAHOO,” 42-foot Bertram with Captain Ricardo Escamilla-Yahoo and Mate Jose Escamilla-Yahoo with anglers Bryon Hatrel,  Kevin Stierwald, Lyle Simoneaux,  and Richard Kernion, Jr., all from Louisiana, released Five Striped Marlin along with a Dorado and a Silky Shark weighing an estimated 120 pounds. The fish were caught on Ballyhoo and caballito at the 1150 Spot.

As summer sets in, week 23 will be remembered for the arrival of blue marlin and sailfish. Now, if dorado will only get a little larger, and yellowfin tuna will become more consistent, week 24 can be a fantastic start for our Summer Season!
