Our week began like the last one ended, with remarkable weather featuring clear skies, calm seas with wave heights in the 3ft. range with sea temps 71-3 degrees, and the day high approaching 77 degrees.
Throughout this week our clients had the luxury of choosing various species. Striped marlin, sailfish, dorado, yellowfin, roosterfish, grouper, sheepshead, sierra, skipjack, triggerfish, mako shark, silky shark, hammerhead shark, ladyfish, and Red Snapper to target.
As an example, Mark Chiavetta, from San Jose California has been fishing with the Pisces Fleet for the past 15 years. Has been mentioned numerous times for some of his remarkable catches. Including an astonishing 805 black marlin, or stand-up swordfish more recently both aboard his favorite sportfisher “BILL COLLECTOR II” 35ft Cabo Flybridge with Captain Juan C. Lopez and Mate
When he boarded the boat, as usual, Captain Lopez, briefed Mark on the current conditions and what was biting where. As they headed out of the marina, Mark and Juan agreed to focus on fun fishing until they heard some billfish dope worth checking out from other boats in the fleet.
During the day they moved from spot to spot catching whatever happened to be biting. The results were extraordinary. Fishing on several different banks, Mark caught dorado, sierra, bonita, grouper, ladyfish, and sheepshead.
” KARINA” 30ft Bertram Captain Orlando Murillo, Mate Jorge Velez After discussing the day’s options with Cliff Thompson, Teri Bludworth, on a holiday from Huffman Texas who had expressed their interest in striped marlin headed Migrino Bank where there had been some stripers earlier in the week.
The hour or so ride went by quickly and the seabird activity was encouraging as the sleek 30’ Bertram slowed to trolling speed and Jorge dropped the brightly colored artificial lures back a few boat links. Cliff and Teri took their places in the cockpit deck chairs and watched the lures mesmerizing popping as the sun climbed skyward.
Birds diving on bait schools along with a few free-jumping stripers confirmed they were in the neighborhood followed by the howl of reel clickers signaling a strike on one of the lures. During the morning the action continued. By noon, 3 of the 4 fish hooked were released, unfortunately, one fish had swallowed the ballyhoo and came up dead.
“LA CHINGONA” 46ft Viking Captain Miguel, Mate Nestor headed out to an entirely different area “Cerros de Arena” for the Ava, Carter, and Robert Myers family from Texas. Their day’s catch was impressive 3 Striped marlin with estimated weight (80-120 lbs.) caught and released on bait (jurelito) plus one 15-pound dorado.
The “VALERIE” 35ft Bertram Captain Bruce, Mate Salvador Flores produced a mixed bag for Aldo Kuntz, Lorin McPherson, Michelle Kuntz, and Mike McDonald from Whitefish Montana. Which included 2 striped marlin released with an estimated weight of (100-120lbs.) as well as two Silky Sharks weighing an estimated (80-100lbs). Plus, one dorado in the 20-25lbs class all on ballyhoo all at the Pozo Cota area.
“HAPPY ENDING” 60ft Viking Captain Omar Contreras and Mate Miguel Ramírez
Fishing the Fuera Faro area found some early-season yellowfin tuna on plumas as well as releasing a striped marlin weighing approximately 120 lbs that bit a cocinero bait. Much to the delight of the group including, Brian Krafft, Jennifer Krafft, Penelope Krafft, Lily Krafft, Kyle Smith, Margo Smith, Mary Marshall Smith, Mary Wesley Smith, Annabelle Smith.
“CHASIN TAIL” 62ft Viking Captain Pepe, Mate Ulises and Ramon, Dulce found another area that also produced 2 Striped Marlin released with an estimated weight of 90-110lbs in the Molinito area along with 4 bonito on lures. For our group from Florida including, Aidan Marshall, Casper Coetsee, Connor Slomann, Denise Marshall, Jace Breeden, Nicholas Hamilton, Preston Venerable, Ryan Elliot, Tayton Schneider, and Tim Marshall, all from Florida.
