Pisces Fishing Report April 29th to May 5th

Overall Catch Success Rate: 82%

Billfish: 54%, Tuna: 7%, Dorado: 15% , Other 19%

Billfish numbers this week more than doubled with 62 Marlin Released for a total of 47 boats. Dorado numbers remained pretty close to last week, but we saw some decent size fish once again, with most Dorado between 20 and 30 lbs each. Still some action for those looking to fish inshore, with Sierra Mackerel still around and some bottom fish. No yellowfin tuna yet, only Skipjack tuna.

OCLT Derby Winners! Pisces 31′ Tracy Ann & Pisces 35′ Bill Collector 2

This week however we had a special event take place. Several of our Pisces vessels participated in the 76th Ocean City Light Tackle Club Derby (OCLT). This is a tournament that takes place over the course of 3 days with anglers proving their light tackle abilities using only dead bait for Billfish releases. The angler with the most points is named the winner of the derby. There are also prizes for the top boats, with Pisces 31’ Tracy Ann taking 1st place and Pisces 35’ Bill Collector 2 taking 2nd place. Congratulations to all participating anglers and crews!

Beginning the week, Pisces 32’ Bill Collector had 3 Striped Marlin Released between 100 and 160 lbs each. Later in the week, Anglers Chris Calabrese, Jim Motsko & Matt Barrazotto did well to also release 3 Striped Marlin during the  OCLT Derby in one day, using their ballyhoo bait out of Punta Gorda area. 

Anglers David Gray, John Simmonds & Scott Long helped put Pisces 31’ Tracy Ann on the leaderboard droning the derby by releasing 2 Striped marlin of about 100 lbs each at Punta Gorda. On their best day, Pisces 31’ Tracy Ann Released three Marlin. Pisces 35’ Valerie released 4 Striped Marlin on their best day, but they found these at the 11:50 Spot, with the largest fish averaging about 110 lbs. 

Pisces 37’ Viking BBII released 3 Striped Marlin Released, 1 Dorado of 25 lbs and 4 Jack Crevalle Released at the 11:50  Spot. 

Pisces 42′ Yahoo!

Pisces 42’ Yahoo also had a nice Dorado, of about 25 lbs, which took to a lure at the 11:50 Spot. Anglers also released 2 Striped Marlin of about 100 lbs each. 

More Dorado still, Pisces 31’ Tiburon landed a 33 lbs Dorado on ballyhoo at Punta Gorda, by anglers Joseph Schwartz and Wayne Six and they also released a nice Striped Marlin of about 100 lbs during the OCLT Derby on May 1st. 

And for OTHER Species: Hammerhead Shark Released for Pisces 38’ C Rod on a half day outside of Cabeza Ballena. Pisces 38’ C Rod also had a 23lbs Dorado landed at Destiladeras. And Pisces 35’ Valerie headed inshore still finding lots of Sierra with 16 Sierra Mackerel landed total.

Pisces 42’ Caliente had a nice Grouper, of about 35 lbs, beginning the week for the Jenkins family and friends out of Palmilla area.

Pisces 35’ Bill Collector 2 had 2 Jack Crevalle of about 10 and 15 lbs each, both on ballyhoo close to the 11:50 Spot, while fishing for Billfish in the OCLT – which they also found, three Marlin released this day.
