Pisces Fishing Report January 5th – 12, 2024

The Pisces Fleet has reported another action-packed week for the second week in 2024.  The striped marlin release count remained steady for those searching for billfish action. The good news is that the stripers are showing in various areas surrounding Land’s End, indicating they should be in the neighborhood for a while.

Captain Salvador Flores and Mate Jesús Winkler led their clients Edward Frazak, Eric Morrow, Joshua Lincoln, Nicole Gagnon, and Phillip Doherty from Norwood, Massachusetts, on what they described as an exciting and productive trip on Pisces’ La Brisa, a 31-ft. Bertram, where they released a striped marlin and caught ten dorado this past week.

Not to be overlooked in surface action are a host of additional willing species, many of whom are equally tough fighters – yellowfin tuna, dorado, and wahoo – are also being caught on some of these banks by trolling with the same live bait and marlin lures.

Even closer to shore, the roosterfish often behave like stripers, feeding on the surface and slicing through the water as they gorge on the schools of baitfish. In the feeding frenzy

On Bill Collector II, a 35-ft. Cabo Flybridge, Captain Juan Carlos Lopez, Mate Cuate, and Martínez directed guests Elwin Brooks, John Rodgers, Kennedy Daniels, Leroy Rice, Sean Scanlan, and Stephen Clements from Mechanicsville, Virginia, to release four striped marlin and hook 15 dorado successfully.
Clients Dakota Johnson and Isaac Johnson from Livingston, Montana, with Captain Fernando Noyola at the helm and Mate Jorge Velez on the Andrea, a 28-ft. Uniflite released four striped marlin and caught two yellowfin tuna ten miles out from the Lighthouse.

Not to be overlooked in surface action are a host of additional willing species, many of whom are equally tough fighters – yellowfin tuna, dorado, and wahoo – are also being caught on some of these banks by trolling with the same live bait and marlin lures.

Anamar II, a 24-ft. Panga, run by Captain Armando Zarate, located a school of dorado for anglers Alfonso Sirica and Terrence Miner, both from Connecticut, who landed five nice-sized fish.

Even closer to shore, the roosterfish often behave like stripers, feeding on the surface and slicing through the water as they gorge on the schools of baitfish. In the feeding frenzy, they compete with the sierra mackerel, jack crevalle, pompano, skipjack, and kawakawa (white skipjack). All are eager to bite everything moving, including cedar plugs, tuna feathers in various colors, marlin lures, Rapalas, marauders, and the always popular hooches.
All boats in the Pisces Fleet are equipped to target the many species mentioned above!

Weather reports remain favorable as we enter the third week of our New Year! The word is out, and our bookings are filling fast. If you want to get in on the action, don’t hesitate. Give us a call!
