Pisces Fishing Report Sept 2nd to 8th

Impressive! 308 pound Yellowfin landed by local crew (not a Pisces vessel)

Overall Catch Success Rate: 97%

Billfish: 16%, Tuna: 69%, Dorado: 34%, Other: 5%

This week in Cabo, a 97% Catch success rate for the fleet with 42 of 44 boats out landing fish, and decent ones at that! Although the percentage of boats landing Billfish was only 16 percent, we still had Blue Marlin Releases, Sailfish and Striped Marlin, so a nice mix. Most of the Billfish ranged from 100 to 180 pounds, but we had one nice Blue marlin at 426 pounds caught too, aboard Pisces 31’ Ruthless. Tuna was the hottest catch, with 166 Yellowfin Tuna caught for the fleet total. A few fish right at the 100 to 120 pound mark, and most were anywhere between 30 to 80 pounds each! Plus there was two boats (not in the Pisces Fleet) that reported a nice Tuna over 200 pounds and another this Friday which weighed in at 308 pounds. We had more Dorado catches compared to last week too. We had 84 Fish caught, with many releases to respect limits. Friday was the best day, with Top Dorado boat, Pisces 31’ Ruthless, landing 24 Dorado and back by noon at the dock! Ruthless anglers released 16 of those Dorado, respecting their fishing license limits. Most Dorado this week were small compared to last week though, mainly in the 10 to 15 pound range, with a few bigger ones in the mix, of about 25 pounds each. And… Wahoo starting to show up now! Wahoo in the 50 pound range landed! Fishing conditions were a bit patchy, with rain coming through and some wind and swell.

Lets start with some of the impressive Tuna action in Cabo at the moment. We’ve had some greta fish landed lately, with this week’s biggest of about 120 pounds on Pisces 45’ My Way, but a few of our friends (not of the fleet)  landed some COWS!

Four Yellowfin tuna in the 200 to 300 pound range just in this week! The largest, nearing the end of the week, was the 308 pound Tuna caught by local crew (were waiting on more details).

Capt Cheque landed this Cow tuna, fish was probably very close to the 300 pound mark (not a Pisces vessel)

Pisces 46’ La Chingona had a great day with 24 Yellowfin Tuna, all between 30 and 80 pounds each! They headed out 42 miles to find them though, close to the 240 Spot.

Pisces 45’ My Way, found a few nice Yellowfin this week, with the largest just over 120 pounds! The others ranged in size from 45 to 80 pounds each, and hit on Caballito bait ad green/yellow lures abut 41 miles out.

Pisces 42’ Caliente had 8 Yellowfin Tuna landed, with quite a few at the 40 pound mark, they found them 20 miles out of the 180 and fish hit on cedar plugs.

A great Billfish day for angler Leslie Tyrone and Paul Alleman from Texas, they had 2 Striped Marlin which they released, of about 120 lbs, taking Caballito bait at La Herradura. They also landed a 426 pound Blue Marlin, that took to a green/yellow lure, 28 miles out of the 210 spot.

426 lbs Blue Marlin did not survive the fight but fish was shared by all and also donated to local charity Feeding Los Cabos Kids

Pisces 35’ Valerie also had a Blue Marlin, this one of about 200 pound, for anglers Colin, Dennis and Gordon. They released the Blue, and kept 8 Dorado that hit on feathers and Caballito bait close to Solmar area.

Pisces 42’ Hot Rod also had luck with the Dorado this week, they landed a 44 pounder and a 15 pounder 34 miles to the 200 spot. Anglers from California, also landed a Yellowfin tuna of about 40 pounds.

Top Dorado boat, Pisces 31’ Ruthless and angler Gary Burrow and friends landed 24 Dorado close to Rancho San Lucas. Most were about 10 pounds, some smaller. They released 16 Dorado total, respecting limits.
