What a remarkable week! Instead of a few hot spots with many boats on each, our Pisces fleet was spread throughout at least ten different areas, resulting in anglers catching nine different species.
“BILL COLLECTOR II,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge with Captain Niko and Mates JC Martinez and Erick Jr. with Bret Hansen, Chad Grant, and Theodore Marsella, from Clovis, California, found conditions are still good at the 1150 Spot. They caught one of the season’s larger Dorado so far, weighing 40 pounds, which they hooked on a fresh Ballyhoo. In addition, they released three stripers in the 10o to 120-pound class on Ballyhoo, plus two silky sharks, which had an estimated weight of 50 to 60 pounds on Ballyhoo.
Captain Osiel Winkler and Mates Joel and Gil had a busy day as anglers Charles (Chip) Parrish, Jennifer Parrish, Parker Parrish, Patsy Elliott, Peyton Parrish, and Wayne Elliott, all on the “BBII,” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, took turns subduing and releasing an even Dozen Striped Marlin in the 80 to 120-pound range all on Ballyhoo.
Captain Osiel was born and raised in Cabo and enjoys Billfish fishing. He is one of the Top release Captains in the fleet.
The “MY WAY,” a 45-foot Viking with Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue, entertained Marshall Cromer from Oakland, California, hooked a dorado and thirteen red snapper all on sardina. You can bet they took some to have for dinner!
P Captain Abel and Mate Jose Luis on the “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, couldn’t resist checking out the 1150 Spot. Their group included Austin Owens, Drew Steliga, Luke Yontz, Paul Steliga, and Samuel Lacebal, from Clovis, California, where they released Six Striped Marlin weighing between 80 and 120 pounds on Ballyhoo, plus they caught a bonus of Four Dorado.
The “TIBURON” is a classic 31-foot Bertram in top shape – very clean and fast. Captain Rosendo Gomez (with Mate Mario) is dedicated and experienced with a mellow personality, always making you feel at home aboard the “TIBURON.” Their guest, Shane Daly, Pearland, Texas, was delighted with the Three Striped Marlin he could subdue and release in the 100 to 120-pound class. They started at, you guessed it, the 1150 Bank!
When the Captain suggested that one of the other Captains had passed on some information about a roosterfish bite on another spot called Solmar Playa Grande they could run to, Shane jumped at the chance. The info was spot-on! Shane added Seven more Roosterfish to his all-time catch and release list that couldn’t resist live Lisa (mullet) or Ballyhoo slow-trolled.
Panga Anamar II, a 24-footer with Pangero Rafael delivering for Andres from Barcia, Florida, who was eager to catch Roosterfish. The bite was on, and fishing close to shore in front of Solmar, slow-trolling Lisa, he caught and released 13 Roosterfish for the day!
“VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram with Captain Fernando and Mate Noyola Marcelo Davis fishing the 95 Spot. It yielded one released Striped Marlin and one released Sailfish, on trolled Ballyhoo by the Bailey Clark, Brandi Tompkins, and Daniel Demers group from San Antonio, Texas.
“ADRIANA” is a 28-foot Uniflite cruiser with a hard top for shade and plenty of outside seating, including two fighting chairs. It had a refit in 2020 with a new Cummins 315 Turbo engine (a top speed of 28 knots), cabin, clean, private bathroom, and places to sit or lie down inside and outside the cabin.
Captain Frank Martinez has been fishing professionally for 18 years. In 2007, he took first place in the WON Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot with a 230-pound Yellowfin Tuna. He loves the year-round Striped Marlin fishery in Cabo, and his largest Marlin caught to date is a 510-pound Blue, which he hand-lined at the end.
On Wednesday, he and mate Bruce located some hungry yellowfin tuna for guests Mary Annette Warren and Rocky R Warren from Golden, Colorado. The first one was pretty small, so the group was shocked when a monster yellowfin pounced on the Volador blue and white lure 27 miles out at the Fuera Cerro area. Back at the scale, they were astonished as the needle on the scale finally quit bouncing and settled at 184 pounds.
Captain Rey Winkler with Mate Jesus Winkler with anglers Jordan Peterson and Nathan Peterson from Missouri on the “LA BRISA,” a 31-foot Bertram had quite a day underscored by Two Striped Marlin on bait released and One Wahoo on a lure at the 95 Spot.
“TRACY ANN,” a31-foot Bertram with Captain Julio Castro- Mate TracyAnn Raul Leal delivered for Aaron Fowler and Carmel Stoesz from Treasure Island, Florida, releasing 20 Roosterfish weighing from 8-10-20-45 pounds on Lisas at Solmar and Los Arcos.
“MY WAY,” a 45-foot Viking run by Captain Alan and Mates Daniel and Josue, had quite a day releasing One Striped Marlin, approximately 110 pounds on a fresh caballito at the 95 Spot, plus 12 Yellowfin Tuna, from 30 to 178 pounds on Rapalas and cedar plugs 35 miles out from Cabo Marina for Desiree Piccini, Nate Lester, Silvio Piccini and Silvio Piccini III, a group from West Linn, Oregon.
Captain Lopez and Mate Martinez ended up on the Los Arcos on the “BILL COLLECTOR II,” a35-foot Cabo Flybridge, catching Two Dorado on Lisa and releasing Six Roosterfish on Lisa, with Andrew Bloom, Bella Bloom, Chris Larson, Daniel Bloom, Jeff Bloom, and Jett Bloom.
There has continued to be some mid-day wind, though sea temps have remained consistent, and our crews have delivered some memorable catches that anglers will talk about to their friends back home.
