Pisces 62′ Viking Chasin Tail had an INCREDIBLE day yesterday! And this is one of those stories, where it had to be fate… Anglers aboard, Larry Bale & Hunter Hensley, had originally booked a half day of fishing, this means they should be back at the dock by 11 am or so. However, even on a half day, their Captain, Pepe de la Peña, was going to fish hard, no matter the time they had. He decided to go to the 95 Spot in search of Yellowfin, a nice eating fish that they could possibly get a few of and return home happy in a short amount of time. Plus, in this area we’ve been finding Marlin and some scattered big bull Dorado, so he knew this is where he wanted to be. Still a 25 mile run on a half day was also a risk.
Sure enough, the crew found a nice Yellowfin tuna of about 50 lbs to start off their day, and were able to enjoy fresh made sashimi on board!
Captain Pepe could tell conditions could be good for the possibility of a big billfish: Blue Marlin or if they were very lucky, Swordfish. Just then they had a Blue Marlin on, not long and they had it to the boat, approximately 300 lbs and successfully released. Their time out on the water was coming to a close but then Hunter and Larry decided to make a whole day out of it and stayed out for a Full day. They had another Blue bite but lost it quickly, the hook pulled.
But not long after the crew spotted another Billfish, this time it was a Swordfish. The Sword took a pitched ballyhoo from the bow at the hand of deckhand Ulises. Hunter fought the Swordfish for just under 2 hours before getting it to the boat!
An amazing ending to an already great day – Congratulations to the anglers and our awesome Chasin Tail crew: Captain Pepe de la Peña, Mates Ulises and Arturo Peralta, plus hostess Dulce Maria, on a once in a lifetime fishing day !
