The Sea was crystal clear and calm, perfect for fishing. The waves were only two to six feet, so boat rides were smooth at best and choppy on the worst days. No one complained. They were used to worst in whatever lakes, rivers, or seas they came from. Temperatures ran from 79-85 degrees Fahrenheit, perfect for a Baja tan. The wind blew a bit stronger to 20 kts. The water temperature was from 75 to 80 degrees, and the air slipped slightly to between 78 and 87 degrees.

Throughout November, the skies were beautiful and blue, with floating white clouds drifting across the sky most days by mid-morning. You could almost see forever.

On the “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge with Captain Abel and Mate Ninja, a group from San Antonio, Texas, had an exceptional day. They caught Eighteen Yellowfin Tuna, with the largest weighing a staggering ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWO POUNDS. These impressive catches, made on bait and the kite at the San Jaime, marked a truly successful day of fishing.

The lively group of fishermen from Monterrey, México, Eugenio Martinez, Jorge Sanchez, Mauricio Maldonado, Patricio Guerra, Benjamín Dabdoub, and Diego Villarreal, were greeted by the enthusiastic Captain Juan and Mate Lalo aboard the “Reel Primo,” a 38-footer. Laughter and shouts filled the air as the anglers, united by their love for fishing, kept catching Fourteen Yellowfin Tuna on bait all day. The camaraderie was strong, and they were all smiles. It was a blast — a day of great fun and shared experiences.

From Oklahoma, Barbara Hoffman, Jeff Allen, Joe Hoffman, Joy Allen, Kathy Phipps, Mark Allen, and Pam Allen were on a roll on the “CALIENTE,” a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Jaime and Mate Luis A. running the show when they caught and released EIGHT 100 to 120-pound STRIPED MARLIN on bait at the Los Arcos Spot. They enjoyed every moment, realizing it was probably a once-in-a-lifetime day.

Captain Rosendo Gomez and Mate Carlos Santos, running the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram, kept their clients busy at the San Jaime Bank on Twelve Yellowfin Tuna from 8 to 40 pounds plus Three 6-pound Skipjack. Aaron Christiansen, Jason Christiansen, and Rick Christiansen from Temecula, California, had a super day and planned to return to cross a few more species off their list. Pisces Charters was on their Contact List, and Captain Rosendo was the Best!

Connor Mikolajczyk, Dudley Freitag, Melissa Freitag, and Stacy Freitag chartered the 30-foot Bertram, “KARINA,” with Captain Bruce and Mate Jorge Velez in charge. They ran 25 miles to the 180 Spot, where their California clients caught Five Yellowfin Tuna weighing 10 to 134 pounds on bait. The 134-pound tuna took a couple of hours, sweat, and muscle to bring to the boat. They enjoyed the adventure and the challenge of the battle.  They also caught Three 4-pound Skipjack, which pound-for-pound put up an equal amount of fight but was almost laughable at the minimum amount of energy they took. They had a splendid day and vowed that this would not be the last time they visited Cabo or the Pisces fleet.

On the 31-foot Bertram “REBECCA,” Captain Jose Ramon Alucano and Mate Jose Gomez hosted two eager anglers from Gary, Indiana. Joe Walters and Max Hotka had fished earlier in the week, so they were primed. They were ready when they hit the La Brecha Spot and had a chance at Striped Marlin! They caught and released NINE 80 to 130-pound STRIPED MARLIN on bait.

Captain Jaime Gonzales, known for his love of fishing for Striped Marlin, took a break from his duties to enjoy a day of fishing on the 42-foot Cabo Flybridge, the “CALIENTE.” With his Mate Luis, they raised, caught, and released TEN STRIPED MARLIN in the 100 to 120-pound range on bait at the La Brecha. This unique experience of catching and releasing such large and powerful fish added an extra thrill to the day.

Captain Jesus R and Mate Jesus Winkler welcomed Cheryl Louise Leffel, James Arleigh Zillian, Jr., Paul Thomas, Leffel Risa, and Jeannine Zillian aboard the “LA BRISA,” a 31-foot Bertram as they left the dock and headed to the Los Arcos Spot. There, they hooked and released a Manta that weighed 15 pounds on bait, and they caught and released Four Striped Marlin weighing from 100 to 120 pounds also on bait. It was a fun day; the Manta broke the ice and had everyone laughing as the angler struggled to get it in.

The “TRACY ANN, a 31-foot Bertram, has Captain Julio Castro and Mate Tracy Ann Raul Leal running the boat. One single angler from Gig, Washington—Thomas Latendresse, was aboard to fish on Sunday. He wanted to catch a Striped Marlin, and his Captain and Mate took him to the Migrino, where he caught and released Four 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait. As a bonus, the fishing gods sent him Two lively, 12-pound Dorado that he also caught that day.  All the fish were taken on bait at the Migrino. Thomas and the crew couldn’t have been happier with the day’s results.

John Joseph, Kristy Joseph, and Mickie Joseph, from Grand Junction, Colorado, had the best day fishing from the 30-foot Bertram, “KARINA,” with Captain Jesus R and Mate Jorge Velez. The Captain and Mate were the nicest people they could have hoped to meet, and they enjoyed the day fishing with them.  They caught and released Two 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait at the La Brecha and vowed to return to fish another day with Captain Jesus and Mate Jorge.

Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo enjoyed meeting Iona and Oran Field from Colorado. Having the Fields aboard the “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, was a pleasure. The crew ran to the La Brecha, where there had been reports of multiple Striped Marlin caught by many boats earlier in the week. They were lucky (or skilled) enough to find Three Striped Marlin in the 120-pound range for the anglers to catch and reléase on bait, One 5-pound Dorado, One 10-pound Jack Crevalle, and Eight 4-pound Skipjack all on bait and all at the La Brecha. Iona and Oran enjoyed catching a few of the many species of fish in the waters of the Sea of Cortez Jacques Cousteau wrote about.

The 42-foot Bertram, “YAHOO,” run by Captain Ricardo Escamilla-Yahoo and Mate Jose Escamilla-Yahoo, took their San Antonio, Texas trio to the La Brecha Spot to follow up on the Striped Marlin reports. Jason Hummel, Nancy Hummel, and Tyler Hummel caught and released Five 90 to 100-pound Striped Marlin on Macarela at the La Brecha and One 15-pound Dorado, also on Macarela at the La BrechaOne or the other angler stayed on the rod all day, but they were impressed with their Captain and Mate and the extraordinary fishing day.

LA CHINGONA 2,” a 64-foot Viking – Captain Tony and Matre Miguel took guests Antonio Bojorquez and friends from San Lucas, Mexico, to the La Brecha where they caught and released SEVEN STRIPED MARLIN weighing between 90 to 110 pounds on Ballyhoo and TWO YELLOWFIN TUNA weighing 150 pounds and 180 pounds. Those were caught outside the San Jaime.  Congratulations, Antonio! Those win the Jackpot, for sure.

Aj Franty, Anthony Franty, and Wendy Franty from Humble, Texas, had a remarkable day on the “TRACY ANN,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Julio Castro and Mate TracyAnn Raul Leal running the boat. The crew knew where to head, and off they went to just above the San Jaime, where they found two giant Yellowfin Tuna weighing 129 and 139 pounds on live Macarela. The fish fought harder than any fish the anglers had ever caught, but they enjoyed every moment of the battle.

Dustin Corboy, John Corboy, and Nolan Corboy from Jensen Beach, Florida, were looking for a good time when they boarded the “KNOT WORKIN,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Tito Olascoaga and Mate Cesar, and they had quite a day.  They headed 22 miles to the 180, where they caught Nine Yellowfin Tuna weighing from 6 to 40 pounds on bait and lures, and they enjoyed catching each and every one.

Jiahao Liu, Lan Wang, Yuetlan Yuan, Yuting Mei, and Ziang Jing chartered the “HOT ROD,” a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge run by Captain Erick Orozco and Mate Hot Rod Juan Carlos Martinez.
They hoped to try their hand at some diverse, exciting Sea of Cortez fishing.  And they did get to fight a couple of the most sought-after species.  They caught and released One 100-pound Striped Marlin on bait and Five Yellowfin Tuna ranging from 6 to 122 pounds on a Rapala 25 miles to the 180 Spot. They enjoyed the day and the fishing with the knowledgeable and helpful crew.

Captain Alex and Mates Saul and Roberto, who run the “FRIDAY BANK,” a 66-foot Viking, wanted the best opportunity for one of the giant tuna for their guests from Washington. They had heard reports that the 200 Spot was the place to be for the large yellowfin, so they headed to that destination.  Twenty-two miles to the 200 Spot, their fishermen, Ian Robinson, Jason Ness, Lisa Ness, Naomi Ness, Nolan Ness, Olivia Robinson, Stacey Robinson, and Wendy Ness, caught one giant Yellowfin Tuna weighing 120 pounds on a Rapala. The crew and anglers were proud, as they should have been.  It was an impressive tuna!

Speaking of staying busy, Captain Abel and Mates Jose Luis and Martin on the “RIPPER, a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge had Marion Boyd, a solo angler from San Antonio, Texas, who caught TWENTY-ONE YELLOWFIN TUNA beginning with an 8-pounder to a giant 120-pound tough-guy, on kite and bait 30 miles outside of the Lighthouse. He also caught Four Skipjack weighing 4 pounds on bait in the same area.

“HAPPY ENDING,” a 60-foot Viking with Captain Frank at the Helm and Mates Miguel and Omar running the Cockpit ran to the 180 Spot where fishermen Cooper Andrews, Dusty Andrews, Quinn Sissel, Rick Devlin, Tim Sissell and Tom Effinger were eager to fight a few fish.  They caught Five Yellowfin Tuna in the 5 to 25-pound range on bait 25 miles to the 180 Spot. They also got One 4-pound Skipjack on curry in the same area. It was a happy ending for the anglers and the crew on the “HAPPY ENDING.”

The Bearg family, from Oakdale, California, chartered the 35-foot “EL WAHOO KING,” hoping to catch a marlin and perhaps a wahoo or tuna. Aric Bearg, Crue Bearg, Hayden Bearg, and Tatum Bearg caught and released Two 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait at the La Ballena and One 53-pound Wahoo on Macarela at the Elias Calles. There were undoubtedly some happy anglers who departed the boat that afternoon.

Five fishermen chartered the RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram run by Captain Beto Lira and Mate Mario Juarez, who took their anglers, Alaina Huseby, Brianne Chappell, Katy Dawes, Marlene Dawes, and Nyle Dawes to the Herradura, where they caught 23 Yellowfin Tuna weighing from 6 to 40 pounds, and Five 4-pound Skipjack all on bait. Five anglers left the boat with smiles spread across their faces, vowing to return another day!

“Game On,” a 38-foot with Captain Jaime and Mate Kiko, ran 30 miles to the 180 Spot where the group from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Ashley Crispin Ackal, Gail Ackal, George Ackal, George G Ackal III, and Justin Ackal caught Nine 10 to 45-pound Yellowfin Tuna on Curry. They laughed and interacted with the crew and enjoyed catching the tuna.

Heading off from the dock, Captain Frank and Mate Aturo on the “ADRIANA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, got 30 miles to the 120 Spot when their anglers Kaden Devenport and Kent Devenport from Windsor, Colorado, began catching the first of their TWENTY-ONE Yellowfin Tuna weighing between 12 and 80 pounds on bait. They also caught a 4-pound Skipjack in the same area, also on bait. They said they would rather be lucky than good, though Captain Frank said he would prefer they were good too, which they were! They had many laughs as they caught the tuna one after the other. It was a perfect day!

Adam Kibel chartered the “LA CHINGONA,” a 46-foot Viking, with Captain Miguel and Mates Nestor and Juan decided that the La Brecha could still hold the marlin that they did the week before, so that’s where they took their solo angler from New York.  When they arrived, Adam caught and released Eight 120-pound Striped Marlin on Macarela. He caught precisely what he was looking for but was exhausted at the end of the day.

“BBII,” a37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, with Captain Osiel and Mate Joel, had a wonderful time fishing with Bradley Bugg Clayton, Quinn Connor, Buchanan Garret, Brandon Greyson, and Bargeron Tyler, from Savannah, Georgia. The anglers caught and released One 120-pound Striped Marlin and Six Yellowfin Tuna from 10 to 30 pounds, all on 30 bait and all miles to the 180 Spot.
