Pisces Fleet Sportfishing Week 29 Report July 12 – 18, 2024

Pisces Fleet Sportfishing’s 29th week featured Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Silky Shark, and Needlefish, spread over a variety of different locations from the 1150 Spot, 20 miles to the 130 Spot, the 95 Spot, and the  Herradura. They enjoyed remarkable weather featuring clear skies, calm seas with five to six-foot wave heights, and winds from 12 to 16 miles per hour. The water temperatures ranged from 70 to 80 degrees, with ambient temps from 75 to 81 degrees that only varied slightly throughout the week, from Friday through Thursday.

A sample of some of the action on Friday, July 12, included “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, with Captain Raul and Mate Marcelo and anglers Adrian Burger, Louis Burger, and Wilkus Burger from Harriman, Utah. The anglers kept busy releasing Six Striped Marlin, with an estimated weight of 100 to 130 pounds, taken on fresh caballito at the 1150 Spot and a single dorado on a Ballyhoo.  



Brian and Mike Nelson from Flower Mound, Texas, fishing aboard the “LA CORONITA,” a 40-foot Cabo Express, with  Captain Manuel, Sr., and Manuel, Junior as Crew, had quite a day with a total of Six Striped Marlin released with an estimated weight of 80 to 100 pounds on Ballyhoo also released at the 1150 Spot.

On the 31-foot Bertram, the “RUTHLESS,”  Captain Bruce and Mate Omar Samir and their anglers, Carey Williams, Michael Williams, Monte Williams, and Travis Budlong from Bulverde, Texas, released Four Striped Marlin weighing in the 100 to 110-pound range, and One Dorado that were all taken on fresh caballito at the 1150 Spot

Angler Robert Naftel from Georgia, California hooked and released FIVE Striped Marlin 90 to 120 pounds and One Silky Shark weighing approximately 70 pounds, all on caballito and Ballyhoo at the 1150 Spot wrapping up a fantastic Friday on the “KARINA,” a 30-foot Bertram with Captain  Orlando and mate Murillo Jorge Velez.  

 

On Saturday, Captain Osiel and Mates Joel and Alan on the “BBII,” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, Produced and Released a Double-Digit-Day of Ten Striped Marlin, with an estimated weight of 80 to 120 pounds on fresh Ballyhoo at the 1150 Spot, plus Two Silky Shark weighing approximately 80 to 100 pounds also released by the Amanda Cox, Ava Magness, Gas Magness, Kennan Hess, Mason Magness and Monte Magness group from Aledo, Texas. 

Gabriella Zadwydas, Gloria Gauron,  Jacques Gauron, John Zadwydas, Kimberly Zadwydas, and Tyler Zadwydas fishing aboard the  “FRIDAY BANK,” a 66-foot Viking with Captain Alex, and Mates Saul, Beto, and Juan also scored and Released Two Striped Marlin weighing in at 100 to 120 pounds on Ballyhoo at the 1150 Spot.

“ANDREA,” a28-foot Uniflite with Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo D.,  and anglers Dawn Klungseth, Jeff Klungseth, and Stuart Klungseth from
Clermont, Florida, released One Striped Marlin weighing around 100 pounds. They hooked on caballito 20 miles from IGY Marina at the 130 Spot. They also caught Ten Yellowfin Tuna weighing from 10 to 15 pounds.

“LA BRISA,” the 31-ft Bertram Captain Ray Winkler and Mate Jesus Winkler with Andrew Dye, Cavin Dye, Jeffrey Couch, and Wayne Hinkle, fishing the 1150 Spot caught and released Three Striped Marlin estimated 90 to 100 pounds on caballito/Ballyhoo.  Plus, three yellowfin tuna weighing 10 to 20 pounds on cedar plugs, plus one tuna called “BRUJITA” by Rick Couch, weighing 121 pounds. 

“SEÃ SENORA,” a42-foot Post Sport Fisher, with Captain Carmelo and Mate Navarrete Omar fishing at the Herradura Spot, with the group, Marianne Bishop, William R Bishop, Bill G Bishop, and Samuel Whorton, they caught and released Seven Striped Marlin estimated to weigh between 80 to 110-pounds on caballito.

On the “VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram with Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Carlos S., their group, Brayden Dobson, Brendan Shelley, and Kevin Murphy. Landry Nash,  Maddox Murphy, Steven Murphy, and Edward Dobson, all from Livingston, Texas, had one exciting day catching and releasing Six Striped Marlin between 90-100 pounds on Ballyhoo and caballito, One Dorado on Ballyhoo on the 1150 Spot, Plus, Two 12 to 15-pound Yellowfin Tuna.

Ashley Wheeler, Daniel Wheeler, Graviett Trey Robert Michelle Graviett, and Nathan Seyer from Missouri caught and released One Striped Marlin weighing from 100 to 110 pounds on Ballyhoo and One 28 to 30-pound Wahoo on caballito at the Herradura while on the “C ROD,” a38-foot Blackfin with Captain Daniel and Mates Juan and Omar.

“BILL COLLECTOR II,” a35-foot Cabo Flybridge, run by CaptainLopez and Mate Martinez with the couple from Littleton, Colorado, Gretchen De Wolfe and Mike Jackson caught Ten nice-sized Yellowfin Tuna on Ballyhoo and Cuchis on the 1150 Spot.

Addison Heminger, Hudson Heminger, Kraig, and Tracie Heminger scored and released One 100-pound Striped Marlin on a rose-colored lure at the 95 Spot, plus One Dorado on Ballyhoo while fishing on the Herradura on the “YAHOO,” a 42-foot Bertram with  Captain Ricardo Escamilla at the helm and Mate Yahoo Jose Escamilla supervising the cockpit.

Wednesday, “KNOT WORKIN,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge with Captain Israel and Mate Abraham with a group from Texas, Douglas Hebert, Paige Herbert, and Peter Herbert, caught and released Seven Striped Marlin estimated to weigh 80 to 110 pounds on caballito/Ballyhoo at the 95 Spot.  

Adam Ryan Hicks and Rachel Whitney Hicks aboard “LA CHINGONA,” a46-foot Viking with Captain Miguel and Mates Danie and Omar, returned to the 1150 Spot. What a day they had! It’s a day to remember, with Six Striped Marlin released on Ballyhoo along with a released 60-pound Silky Shark back at the 1150 Spot on Wednesday.

” SEÃ SENORA,” a42-foot Post Sport Fisher ,Captain Carmelo/Mates Trino /Juan Angel with William R Bishop, Bill G Bishop,  and Samuel Whorton, from California, had a SECOND extraordinary day this week with the release of Four Striped Marlin weighing up to 147 pounds on fresh caballito, as well as catching Two 30-Pound Dorado and One Yellowfin Tuna all at the 95 Spot.

EIGHT Striped Marlin in the 100 to 110-pound range.

 

Captain Abel Ramirez has been living in Cabo for almost 40 years and has been fishing professionally for over 25 years. He is well-known for his fishing prowess for Big Tuna. He is an expert at using the kite to land Cow Yellowfin. He is easygoing and always focuses on the task at hand. He runs a great crew.
HIS LARGEST YELLOWFIN TUNA CAUGHT TO DATE: Yellowfin Tuna 320 Pounds.

“KARINA,” a 30-foot Bertram with Captain Orlando Murillo and Mate Jorge Velez and the group Cooper Dubois, Lloyd Wade Tettleton, and Nicolas McNeil, from Katy, Texas.
They caught and released two striped marlin, 100 to 110 pounds, on caballito and lures, plus nine yellowfin tunas, up to 35 pounds, on palos and lures, on the 1150 Spot.

 Captain Rosendo Gomez and his Mate Carlos Santos took their group Elizabeth Hernandez, Guadalupe Gallegos, Jr., Jose Cruz Hernandez, III, Jose Cruz Hernández, Jr., and Mark Gabe Rios out on the 31-f00t Bertram, the “TIBURON,” back to the 1150 Spot where they were lucky enough to get them Four Striped Marlin which they released on Caballito. But it was not enough to be lucky. The group had to have a good crew, which they did!!!

 WEATHER CONDITIONS: Calm seas with little wind, 45-8 kts. In the afternoon.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 79-80 F
BEST BAITS & LURES: Mackerel, Ballyhoo, Lisa and Cocinero, Cedar Plugs, Plumas, and various marlin lures.
