The Pisces Fleets week began with calm seas and clear skies in the morning. However, the winds created some 5 to 6-foot waves in the afternoon. The conditions remained similar throughout the week, with sea temps in the ideal range of 79 to 81 degrees. By the end of the week, the species list had grown to include Needlefish, Bonito, Skipjack, Jack Crevalle, Roosterfish, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, Hammerhead Shark, Wahoo, Silky Shark, Sailfish, Striped Marlin, and Blue Marlin.
“RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with CaptainAbel and Mate Jose Luis headed straight for the 1150 Spot. Their group consisted of Calvin Hincks, Easton Kutcher, Jet Hooper, Kasey Kuncher, Kevin Hincks, and Michael Hooper, all from California. They had a busy morning and an early afternoon catching and releasing TEN Striped Marlin in the 100 to 120-pound class on fresh Ballyhoo or caballito, along with THREE nice-sized Dorado weighing 20 to 40 pounds on the same bait.
“C ROD,“ a 38-foot Blackfin with Captain Daniel Jr. and Mate Gonzalez with anglers Cole King, Don McManus, Jimmy Patton, Landon Anderson, Lindsay King, Maddie Anderson, Tracy McManus, and Twyla Patton from Oklahoma, chose to fish another area, the Herradura. There, they released ONE 100 to 120-pound Striped Marlin that bit a live caballito, plus TWO Dorado that preferred live Ballyhoo in the same area.
Bill Hornocker and Guy Howard Evans, from California, fished aboard the “Anamar II,” a 24-foot Panga, with Captain Cesar, where they managed to catch and Release ONE Feisty Hammerhead Shark with a mouthful of teeth on a Lisa near Rancho San Lucas.
Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Miguel on the “ANDREA,” a28-foot Uniflite, took anglers John Russell and Noah Russell from Austin, Texas, to visit the good old 1150 Spot, which once again delivered a super fishing day filled with action. At the end of the day, the two anglers had caught and Released SEVEN Striped Marlin, estimated to weigh 80 to 120 pounds, that had bit both dead Ballyhoo and caballito.
Not far from the “ANDREA” on the 1150 Spot was the “RUTHLESS,” a31-foot Bertram with Captain Beto Lira and Mate Jesus R. Their anglers Elizabeth Broome, Emma Gillemtine, Gunner Gillemtine, Jaqueline Bromme, and Slade Gillemtine from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, not only caught and Released FIVE Great-Sized Striped Marlin, but they also had a bonus catch for the day of One Chunky 40-Pound Wahoo to take back for dinner that evening.
Carson Rogers, Jaclyn Zbrane, Owen Keith, Ryan Keith, Tanner Keith, and Tricia Keith, from Texas, aboard the popular “LA CORONITA,” a well-maintained, 40-foot Cabo Express with Captain Manuel running the vessel and his Mate Manuel, Jr. They followed most of the fleet to the 1150 Spot that day and were not disappointed. Their group racked up a score, which included One Striped Marlin Released and One Nice-Sized Dorado for dinner that evening. Then, they topped off the day with One Glistening Blue Marlin, estimated to weigh approximately 175 pounds!
A couple from Rockport, Texas, Ashley Watson and Lee Fowler spent a half-day trip with Captain Ricardo Escamilla and Mate Yahoo Jose Escamilla-Yahoo, aboard the “YAHOO,” a42-foot Bertram. Ashley and Lee had to be in shape to squeeze FIVE Striped Marlin Releases, estimated to weigh 80 to 100 pounds in a half-day trip. Congratulations to the anglers and the Captain and Mate on a fantastic Cabo adventure!!!
Amy McCurdy, Holly Treat, and Jaimie Rains experienced a fishing trip to remember! Aboard the “TRACY ANN,” a31-foot Bertram with Captain Julio Castro and Mate Mario, caught and released EIGHT Striped Marlin ranging from an estimated 66 to 100 pounds all on fresh Ballyhoo and caballito at the —- wait for it. At the 1150 Spot! Plus, they caught One Dorado on a Ballyhoo at the 1150 Spot!
Not to be outdone, a single, very busy angler, Tommy Rafferty, from Waco, Texas, on the “MY WAY,” a45-foot Viking with Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue, matched “TRACY ANN’s” catch of EIGHT Striped Marlin released on Ballyhoo at the same 1150 Spot. Plus, he caught one bonito on a feather and one silky shark, estimated to weigh 60 to 70 pounds, on aBallyhoo.
On a Half-Day run, the “SEA SENORA,” a 42-foot Post Sport Fisher with Captain Cami Herrera and Mates Carmelo and Samir Omar, dazzled the fleet with the release of a Blue Marlin with an estimated weight of 150 pounds. It was caught at the 95 Spot on a fresh Ballyhoo by the California group Antonio Herrera, Dominic Herrera, and Gonzalo Herrera.
With Captain Lopez at the helm and Mate Martinez in the cockpit,anglers Kasey Kuncher, Kevin Hincks, and Michael Hooper from California fished aboard the “BILL COLLECTOR II,” a35-foot Cabo Flybridge, and released a total of SIX Striped Marlin estimated to weigh 80 to 120 pounds on both Ballyhoo and caballito and finished the day with Dorado weighing approximately 25 pounds.
Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores, on the “VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram, took Lance Kasper and Neel Sukhatme from Illinois back to the 1150 Spot, where they caught a Wahoo, plus they caught and released FIVE Striped Marlin on Ballyhoo, caballito, and curry.
Chris Morgan, Emily Morgan, Laura Morgan, and Mason Morgan from Montgomery, Texas, on board the “KNOT WORKIN,” a35-foot Cabo Flybridge with Captain Israel and Mate Abraham, scored TWO Huge Roosterfish (released) estimated to weigh 50 and 60 pounds on fresh Lisa.
Jim Salley and Paul David Evans, from Marquez, Texas, fished aboard the Panga Anamar II, a 24-foot BLADI, with Captain Cesar, Jr. Their catch included Releasing ONE 40- Pound Roosterfish on fresh mullet, Two Jack Crevalle 20-pounds also on mullet and a Silky Shark weighing approximately 25 to 30 pounds.
“TRACY ANN,” a 31-foot Bertram with Captain Julio Castro-Tracy Ann and Mate Rigoberto De La Toba with the group, Ken Ball, Lucus Johnson, Resha Ball, Shane Johnson, and Tracy Molar from Rock Springs, Wyoming, who caught 15 Yellowfin Tuna, from 10 to 35 pounds on cedar plugs/Curry and Cabrillo.
