Pisces Sportfishing Fleet Report September 6-12, 2024
As September settled in, the weather remained consistent with clear skies and calm seas. The wave heights are in the 3 to 4-foot range, and the sea temperatures continue to hold in the low eighties, along with matching air temperatures.The variety of species began with a weekend filled with Billfish, Yellowfin Tuna, and Dorado, and the numbers of Wahoo have continued to creep up. Our crews are optimistic about the upcoming week’s fishing prospects, assuming the weather holds.
All species combined comprise 97.2% Billfish, 62.50% Dorado 52.08%, Tuna 54.17%, and Other 27.08%.
The crew of “BBII,” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, with the experienced Captain Osiel, Mate Joel, and Mate Gil, demonstrated their skill and knowledge as they guided their guests Ashleigh Weaks, Chet Steubing, Christi Franklin, Joel Harris, and Stacie Harris to catch and release Ten Striped Marlin and Three Dorado at the 95 Spot. The anglers left the boat that day tired but happy, a testament to the crew’s success!
“RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Beto Lira at the Helm and Mate Jesus R. managing the cockpit for the group from Centreville, Maryland, including Bobbi Rae, Gannon Mitchell, Wayne Shown, Shari Ann Neighoff, and Theodore Neighoff, were able to catch and release three 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait at the Golden Gate Bank, 24 Dorado (which were released) in the 15-pound range at the Migrino.
Captain Rosendo Gomez and the Mate, Carlos Santos, on the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram, headed straight for Pozo Cota with their group from Weatherford, Texas, Dickey Wyatt, Kayla Caudle and Jo Caudle, where they found and released One Striped Marlin that weighed 120 pounds. Then Captain Rosendo found a school of his favorite fish for his trio to catch, Dorado, and they caught Twelve in the 15-pound range, plus Four Skipjack that weighed about 3 or 4 pounds. All were caught on bait. However, the Skipjack were caught at the Margarita Bank. Captain Rosendo Gomez has been a part of the Pisces Family for over 34 years. Although Captain Rosendo loves to catch Dorado, he doesn’t discriminate, and making his anglers happy is his top priority. He is easygoing, and his clients enjoy fishing with him.
Once again, David Palos, Dinesh Poudel, Frederick Vanberg, Rick Vanberg, and Samuel Ferrans from Rancho Cucamonga, California, chartered the 35-foot Bertram, the “VALERIE” run by Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores. This time, they caught Eleven Dorado (released) weighing around 15 pounds on bait in the Migrino area, Twelve up to 18-pound Yellowfin Tuna also on the Migrino, and One 20-pound Wahoo on the Arcos Spot. Captain Roberto Sandez has been with Pisces for 37 years and fishes over 300 days a year. Mild-mannered, Roberto is not only kind but above all, he is an excellent fisherman. Roberto and his deckhand, Salvador, work well together as a team. In early 2008, Roberto was awarded Top Captain for the most striped marlin released worldwide in the Pacific in 2007 by The Billfish Foundation. One of his best fishing days ever was when he caught a black marlin, two blue marlin, a striped marlin, and a sailfish — all in one day.
David Clifton and Melissa Retzsch, from Arlington, Texas, chartered the “ADRIANA,” a 28-foot Uniflite with JR as the Captain and Jose as the Mate who headed straight outside of the Migrino where they released One 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait, caught Ten Dorado from 8 to 12 pounds on lures and Nine Yellowfin Tuna in the 12-pound range on bait. The crew went out of their way to ensure the couple had a great trip!
P Jeff and Marie Rosa from Georgia chose the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram run by Captain Beto Lira and Mate Jesus Romero, and they released Nineteen Dorado weighing from 15 to 40 pounds on bait and One Yellowfin Tuna at the Golden Bank. They loved fighting those Dorado!
“C ROD,” a 38-foot Blackfin with Captain Abel, Mate Daniel, and Mate Martin, found Ten Striped Marlin weighing 100 to 120 pounds that their group, Abid Hussain, Alejandro Renteria, Alonzo Ovalle, Andrew Nlemadim, Kyle Pope, Luis Aguilar, and Pedro Boitel, from Houston, Texas, released in the Los Arcos area.
They also caught One 30-pound Wahoo on a lure in that same area.
“ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite run by Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo where they took their anglers from Kaufman, Texas, Bobby Thompson, Charles Gillenwater, and Mike Sandusky to the Orilla Golden, where they caught Fourteen Yellowfin Tuna in the 13-pound range on bait.
Jacquelyn and Wade Danielson, on the “ADRIANA,” a28-foot Uniflite, with Captain Jefe and Mate Chava, hit the jackpot when they released Two 60 to 80-pound sailfish they caught on bait, One Blue Marlin they caught and released on bait, at the Cerro Colorado, and One 35-pound Wahoo they caught on a lure also at the Cerro Colorado.
“LA BRISA,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Ray Winkler and Mate Arturo Lozano, took Callen J. Gawillk, Lauren Davis, and Noah Chesser to the Los Arcos Bank where they found Four 10 to 12-pound Dorado on lures, Seven 8 to 12-pound Yellowfin Tuna on bait, and One 42-pound Wahoo on a blue and white lure at the Pozo Coto.
The 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, “RIPPER,” with Captain Jaime Abel and Jose Luis, provided an enjoyable fishing experience for the couple from Beaumont, Texas, Richard and Sherry Weaver. They found and caught Three Dorado, Six Yellowfin Tuna, and One Wahoo, and the couple left feeling satisfied with their day.
Marie and Jeff Rosa, from Georgia, tried their luck on the “REBECCA,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Jose Ramon Alucano and Mate Jose Gomez. This time, they left the boat after
catching Fifteen Yellowfin Tuna in the 12-pound range on bait and lures outside the Golden. Again, they left the boat smiling, a bit worn out, but it was worth every tired muscle!
And then there was the “MY WAY,” a 45-foot Viking with Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue headed out to the Cerro Del Golden looking for striped marlin for their group Joan O’Gorman, John Rainey, Myrtle Rainey, Thomas O’Gorman, and Vickie Rich. Not only did they find and release Three Striped Marlin in the 100-pound class for their anglers to release on bait, but they found Two Yellowfin Tuna, a small one and another that was huge, 130 pounds, which they also got on bait. They released one 80-pound Sailfish and One 35-pound Wahoo on a lure; all were taken at Cerro Colorado. It seems their trip to the Golden paid off, and a group of pleased anglers departed for their hotel!
The “REELS N DIRT,” a 72-foot Viking Skybridge, had Captain Alan and Mates Oscar and Carlos running the show for their anglers, Allison and David Bell, from Bountiful, Utah, when they managed to catch and release Five Striped Marlin weighing around 90 pounds on bait at the 95 Spot, and Six Yellowfin Tuna from 25 to 70-pounds on bait at the 170 Spot. Try as they might, they couldn’t wipe the smiles from their faces that evening.
