The Pisces Fleet had a great week, catching a wide variety of species. Most of the billfish were released, including blue marlin, striped marlin, sailfish, dorado, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, roosterfish, silky shark, skipjack, and needlefish. The fish were found in various areas and local banks, including the 95 Spot, Los Arcos, Cerro Colorado, San Jaime Bank, in front of the Palmilla Hotel, and Del Barco Perdido. The local weather was typical for this time of year, with air and sea temps in the eighties and some wind in the afternoons….That Baja Guy

Kenzie Puhalski and Robert Cayohad a sensational day with Captain Beto Lira and Mate Carlos S. on the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram. They ran to the 95 Spot, where they caught and released one 80-pound Striped Marlin, one 12-pound Dorado, and they released one 30-pound Silky Shark, all on bait. The 95 Spot comes within 95 fathoms of the surface of a 1,200-foot-deep plateau. (Plateau: a raised area of land, flat on top, often found in mountainous regions…in this case, underwater. It is nine miles east of Cabo San Lucas, and yellowtail, marlin, dorado, and reef fish such as Roosterfish, Cabrilla, Pargo, and dog snapper can often be found there.

Living up to their excellent reputation, the “BILL COLLECTOR,” a 32-foot Cabo Express, with Captain Niko and Mate Erik, took their anglers from Mission Viejo, Daniel Estrada, Isaac Estrada, Jon Diaz, Marc Estrada, Osvaldo Diaz, and Tom Estrada, straight to the Arcos Spot, where they caught twenty 15-pound-class Yellowfin Tuna on various bait.

“ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite with Captain Fernando Noyola at the helm and Mate Marcelo D. in the cockpit, found their anglers, Joseph Swingle and Wimberly Davis Jackson from Austin, Texas, two Striped Marlin in the Cerro Colorado area weighing in the 80 to 100-pound range which they released and three small Yellowfin Tuna. All the fish were hooked on fresh bait. The Yellowfin Tuna were caught off the Santa Maria.

Brianna Shipp, Ethan de la Garza, Henrison Shipp, Leland de la Garza, and Tommy de la Garza, from Cedar Hill, Texaschartered the “VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram, with Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores running the show. They ran to Cerro Colorado, where their group released three Striped Marlin between 100 to 120 pounds on bait, and they caught two Dorado around 20 pounds on bait.

“FRIDAY BANK,” a 66-foot Viking with Captain Alex and Mates Beto and Saul, took Fa Rida Minsu, Joan Ereje, Paula Olmos, Rosa Celis, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Sultan, Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Mohammed, Sheikha Fatma Bin Tahnoon, and Sheikha Hessa Bin Mohammed outside of Palmilla where they had remarkable success and released four Striped Marlin on bait that weighed around 110 pounds each and then, on to the 95 Spot where they caught one Dorado. The marlin action kept them busy for a while.

ADRIANA,” a 28-foot Uniflite with Captain Bruce running the boat and Mate Jesus W. overseeing the cockpit, took their angler Joseph Sefcik to the San Jaime Bank, and there he caught a 10-pound Dorado and Ten Yellowfin Tuna weighing up to 15 pounds on bait. They had quite a day!

Adam Popien, Andrew Elliott, Brock Elliot, Chris Owen, Dustin Armstrong, Gerrit Swityk, Kenneth Gilbertson, and Taylor Brecknell from Kamloops, British Columbia, on the “YAHOO,” a 42-foot Bertram, with Captain Ricardo Escamilla on the Yahoo at the helm and Mate Jose Escamilla [1] Yahoo over the cockpit hit the jackpot. They headed to the 95 Spot, where they caught and released four striped marlins in the 100-pound range on bait and three Dorados in the 15- to 20-pound range on bait. The ‘YAHOO’ crew had a highly successful day, catching a significant number of fish.

Once again, the “BILL COLLECTOR II,” a 31-foot Bertram with Captain Lopez and Mate Martinez, continued to find the yellowfin. Flemmie Houston, Luke Rausch, Jeana Bolen, Mark Bolen, Mike Sauserman, and Sharri Powell from Arizona chose this boat and crew to charter, and they had an exciting day. They headed to the Del Barco Perdido and twenty miles from that area, they caught fifteen large Yellowfin Tuna, from 20 to 70 pounds, on the kite and bait.

With Captain Bruce and Mate Jose running the “REBECCA,” a 31-foot Bertram, Flemmie Houston, and Luke Rausch from Arizona had an incredibly hectic day. They caught fourteen 10-pound Dorado on bait on the San Jaime Bank and ten yellowfin tuna, up to sixteen pounds on bait, also on the San Jaime. Good going, Luke and Flemmie!

On the “RIPPER,” a a35-foot Cabo Flybridge Captain Abel and his Mate Ninja were also having an enjoyable day with Isaiah Mendiola, Marcos Mendiola, and Sean Bujnosek from Rio Rancho, New Mexico. They found ten Dorado that the anglers caught on lures weighing up to 46 pounds at Migrino, and they released one Striped Marlin at Los Arcos.

Branden Lee and Eunice Wonanglers on the “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, with the excellent, fun-loving crew of Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo D, traveled to Cerrito del Golden for three 15-pound Dorado and eight Yellowfin Tuna to twelve pounds all on bait.

Fishing alone on the “C ROD,” a 38-foot Blackfin, with Captain Abel at the helm and Mate Daniel in the cockpit,  angler Daniel Alcaraz released two 120-pound striped marlin that he caught on bait, two Dorado in the 20-pound range on lures, and two Yellowfin Tuna in the 12-pound class on feathers all at Los Arcos.  Captain Abel Ramirez takes pride in his boat, the “C ROD,” and it shows. He has been fishing in the area for over 15 years and goes out of his way to return to port with flags flying. His fishing English is good, and he has a pleasant personality. Rarely does this boat return without fish, and he is a marlin and tuna expert! Winner of the 2015 Tuna Jackpot Tournament with a 210-pound Yellowfin Tuna. Captain Abel and Mate Daniel are the best. We get great feedback from our clients on how much they enjoy fishing with the two of them.
