Day One Started off with this SUPER COW TUNA, from Team Sirena.
WESTERN OUTDOOR NEWS JACKPOT TUNA TOURNAMENT RESULTS AND PAYOUT
This the 21st year of the Tuna Tournament produced a field of 154 entries and a record payout of $1,016,700.00 making it the richest tuna tournament in the world!
It was an amazing event with big fish showing up fast and furious – the second fish to be weighed on day one was a whopping 345 LBS, the second largest in the history of the tournament and would not be toppled.
Ten fish over 200 LBS made it to the scale, but that wasn’t enough to be in the big money – Santana landed a beautiful 291 LB fish on day one which would have been a for sure payout, if they had caught it on day two. This year the wahoo and dorado were two separate categories giving more opportunities to be in the money – day one no dorado over 30 LBS were caught, so organizers lowered day two minimum weight to 15 LBS meaning lots of boats concentrated on this species on day two as they eyed the $80,000.00 prize for a fish over the new minimum weight. Pisces 31′ Rebecca and Tuna Time were tied for first place in this division with a 20.8 lbs dorado each, only to be edged out by Outcast in the last 30 minutes with a 21.7 LB fish.
