Pisces Fleet Sportfishing Week 31 Report

 July 26 – August 1, 2024

Summer has settled in for our Pisces fleet. Everything seemed to be just a tad sluggish with the fish moving around the many banks surrounding Baja’s tip. However, our Team was up to the challenge and the variety remained consistent while the count dropped slightly. 

“RUTHLESS” 31-foot Bertram with Captain Beto Lira G and Mate Jesus R. headed to the 1150 Spot to target billfish for clients Andrew Brezina, Katelynn Tyrone, Leslie Tyrone, Paul Aleman, and Sharon Abplanalp from Webster, Texas. They caught and released one Striped Marlin weighing approximately 100 pounds on Ballyhoo and Two Yellowfin Tuna weighing 4o and 83 pounds on Palo and curry cabrillo.

“ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite with Captain Bruce at the helm and Mate Marcelo D. at his side, took anglers Jess Johnson and Michael Simmons to the 1150 Spot. They caught and released Four 80 to 100-pound Striped Marlin on Ballyhoo and caballito there.

“BILL COLLECTOR II,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridgerun by Captain Juan C. Lopez and Mate JC Martinez 5, took anglers Laura Ramon, Mitchell, Stephanie Hale, and Tristan Hale outside Punta Gorda where they caught Five Yellowfin Tuna in the 10 to 25-pound range with Palos and lures.

Captain Antonio Bojorquez, on the “LA CHINGONA,” hooked and released 11 Striped Marlin weighing from 80 to 100 pounds and caught Five Dorado weighing 15 to 40 pounds on Ballyhoo at the 1150 Spot.

Cooper Johnson, Michael Dunne, Richard Blanchette, Richard C. Johnson, Richard J. Johnson, Robert Johnson, and Ryan Johnson from Charlotte, North Carolina, on the “C ROD,” a 38-foot Blackfin, with Captain Daniel Gonzalez Jr Z., and Mate Omar A.,
caught One Dorado that weighed 15 pounds on Ballyhoo and One Yellowfin Tuna on cuchi at the 1150 Spot.

“FRIDAY BANK,” a66-foot Viking, with Captain Alex at the helm and Mates Saul and Beto overseeing the cockpit, headed straight to the 1150 Spot with their angler Guy Howard Evans, from California, where they were able to catch and release Four Striped Marlin in the 80 to 120-pound range on Ballyhoo and curry.

Captain Julio Castro at the helm and Mate TracyAnn Raul Leal running the cockpit of the “TRACY ANN,” a 31-foot Bertram, for angler Nigel Hicks and Raul Perez, from Tomball, Texas, pulled out a beautiful Dorado weighing 38 pounds on caballito from the 1150 Spot. 

The “HOT ROD,” a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge with Captain Erick Orozco and Mate Hot Rod Jose Ramiro Ramirez and their group, Chris S. Cameron, Julie B. Cameron, and McClain M. Cameron headed three miles off Whale’s Head, where they released Two Striped Marlin weighing 90 to 100 pounds. They bit on caballito and curry. Then, moving to the 1150 Spot, they had even better luck. They released Six Striped Marlin from 80 to 120 pounds that bit on Ballyhoo, and Three 10 to 15-pound Dorado that also took Ballyhoo.

“MY WAY,” a42-foot Viking, with Captain ArturoSilva and Mates Daniel and Josue with their clients Braxton Headley, Caitlyn Cheney, Cherly Headley, Chris Headley, Jarred Barr and Logan Fickle caught Three Yellowfin Tuna weighing between 20 and 85 pounds on Palo at the 1150 Spot.

 “ADRIANA,” a 28-foot Uniflitewith Captain Bruce at the helm and Mate VictorG. overseeing the cockpit, also ran to the 1150 Spot, where anglers Christian Denning and Lance Denning caught and released Five Striped Marlin in the 80 to 110-pound range on caballito and Ballyhoo.

Anglers Billy Bouse and Doy Lee Bone from Galveston, Texas, on the “VALERIE,” a35-foot Bertram with Captain Roberto Sandez running the boat and Mate Mario J supervising the cockpit, they managed to catch a mixed bag on the 1150 Spot. They released a Striped Marlin (around 90 to 120 pounds) on a caballito, a 25-pound roosterfish on a caballito, and an amberjack in the 18-pound range on a caballito. 

Once again, “BBII,” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, Captain Osiel and his Mates Joel and Gil headed out to one of his favorite sites – the 1150 Spot, where they found Seven Striped Marlin from 80 to 110 pounds that took Ballyhoo for their anglers Amy Kaplan, Eli Needham, Jason Needham, and Luke Needham to catch and release.  

With Captain Alex at the helm and Mates Saul and Beto setting up the cockpit on “FRIDAY BANK,” they headed to the 1150 Spot to see if they could get their anglers Ella-Clare McDowellJackson McDowell, and Luckey McDowell some fish. They caught and released a 100-pound marlin on Ballyhoo and Two 44 to 55-pound Dorado, also on Ballyhoo.

Anglers Jose Arturo Cisneros and Victor Hugo Cisnerosfishing on the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram with Captain Rosendo Gomez and Mate Carlos Santos, hooked and released Two Blue Marlin, weighing from 150 to 224 pounds that bit on caballito and curry at the 1150 Spot.

“TRACY ANN,” a31-foot Bertram, with Captain Julio Castro, Mate TracyAnn Raul Leal, and their San Antonio guests, Amy Cichon, Grant Hutcheson, and Mike Carter, caught and released a Striped Marlin that weighed 105 pounds on Ballyhoo, and Two Dorado in the 10 to 18-pound range on caballito and curry, all on the 1150 Spot.

“ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite,run byCaptain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo and joined by Rachel Eggemeyer and Russell Eggemeyer from Texas, who caught and released two roosterfish in the 10 to 12-pound range on caballito at Solmar.

“TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Rosendo Gomez at the helm and Mate Carlos Santos running the cockpit, took John P Bray,  John R Bray,  Keenan Brown, Kiana Malzl, Mark Adams and Scott Bray 27 miles to the AL 120 Spot where they caught Six Yellowfin Tuna weighing from 20 to 50 pounds on Palo.
 

Captain Israel and Mate Abraham, running the “KNOT WORKIN,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge,with anglers Caden Armor and Michael Armor from Dallas, Texas, caught and released One Blue Marlin weighing 150 pounds on curry five miles from Del Cerro.

Carolina Kearney, Hunter Kearney, Mary Kearney, and Riley Kearney had Captain Pepe De La Peana at the helm of “MY WAY,” a 45-foot Viking, along with Mates Daniel and Josue when they got their Blue Marlin weighing around 220 to 240 pounds on Ballyhoo at the 95 Spot.

“KARINA,” a 30-foot Bertram, with Captain Orlando Murillo and Mate Jorge Velez fishing with Mark La Point and Ross Philips on the 1150 Spot, where they caught and released Two Striped Marlin weighing approximately 100 to 120 pounds on caballito and Ballyhoo.

Daniel Buenrostro, Nate Pugh, Ruben Viola, and Ryan Pughon the “BILL COLLECTOR II,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge with Captain Lopez and Martinez, ended up catching Two Yellowfin Tuna around 25 to 30 pounds on Palos and One Sailfish weighing 80 pounds on Ballyhoo 25-30 Miles CERRO.

“BBII,” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, with Captain Joel, Mates Eduardo and Jorge, and joined by anglers Gregory Charles, Feirn Gregory, Charles Feirn, Jr., Sarah Smart, Feirn Williams, and Brandon Feirn in their run to the 1150 Spot to search for marlin. They caught and released two Striped Marlin in the 100 to 120-pound range on Ballyhoo.

Jaxsen Walker, Jorden Walker, Luke Carranza, and Teagen Walker, all from Santa Maria, California, were happy when their Captain Manuel Sr. and Mate Jr. on the “LA CORONITA,” a 40-foot Cabo Express, decided to run to the 95 Spot. They caught and released Two Striped Marlin in the 100 to 110 range on the Lures – Petrolero & Tigrillo FUERA.

Captain Erick Orozco and Mate Hot Rod Jose Ramiro Ramirez, running the “HOT ROD,” a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge, decided to head to the FUERA 95 Spot for their anglers James Matlock, John Matlock, Joseph Wood, Paden Matlock, Paul Matlock, and Robert Anderson, from San Antonio Texas to try their luck and it paid off. They caught and released two Striped Marlin from 100 to 120 pounds on caballito and Two 35-pound Dorado on Caballito.
