Pisces Fleet Sportfishing Week 32 Report

The larger yellowfin tuna and dorado were on the prowl this week! Those seeking billfish were delighted with the choices offered, including blue, black, and striped marlin plus some feisty sailfish. All in all, it was a fun and productive week. And it appears to be continued during the upcoming week… August 3 – August 9, 2024 Overall Catch Success Rate, All Species Combined

Captain Israel and Mate Abraham ran the “KNOT WORKIN” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with the group Amanda Whitt, Gavin Whitt, and Roman Whitt on board. About 18 miles outside the 95 Spot, they caught and released One Striped Marlin weighing around 90 to 100 pounds on Ballyhoo and Seven Yellowfin Tuna from 10 to 80 pounds on palos and lures.

Traveling the distance from Queensland, Australia, anglers Lee Moraschi, Michael Radamekar, and Oliver Moraschi, with Captain Joel at the helm of the “BBII,” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, successfully caught and released Four Striped Marlin between 100 to 120 pounds on caballito and One Dorado weighing 15 to 20 pounds on Ballyhoo all of the fish were hooked on the 1150 Spot.

On a HALF-DAY trip on the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram Captain Julio and Mate Jesus, they targeted marlin for their guests Ben Dougherty and Jake Johnson, JP, from Colorado. They hooked and released One Striped Marlin, weighing approximately 96 pounds on a lure/MOCO FARO, and One 15-pound Dorado on a Caballito Faro.

“ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite run by Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Mario J., took Brooke Braddock and Trey Braddock to the 1150 Spot where they got One Sierra, in the 6 to 7-pound range on Curry las Bombas and One Roosterfish weighing 40 pounds on Caballito el Dorado.

The group on the “BILL COLLECTOR II,” the 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Juan C Lopez and Erick, Jr.,  took their clients, Don Roach,  Kris Roach, Sarah Roach, and Tarrah Bowen, of
Oro Valley, Arizona, twenty-six miles to the 95 Spot. There, they scored three Yellowfin Tuna weighing 90 to 122 pounds on curry, kites, and caballito.

The “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, run by Captain Abel and Mate José Luis hit the jackpot for their client, Mark Chiavetta from California, who caught and released One Blue Marlin about 150 to 180 pounds on a dead caballito, One Dorado, around 6 pounds on a pluma, and Two Yellowfin Tuna in the 15 to 30-pound range on pluma and cuchi outside of San Jaime.

Captain Orlando and Jesus R., running the “RUTHLESS,” a 37-foot Bertram, with anglers Jose Maria Gonzalez Acuna, Marcia Medina Choix and Paulina Gonzalez Medina Distrito Federal caught and released One Striped Marlin, around 84 pounds on caballito, and One Sailfish, about 60 or 70 pounds on caballito, both on the 1150 Spot.

“BBII,” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, with Captain Joel and Mates Eduardo and Jorge, were joined by anglers Gregory Charles, Feirn Gregory, Charles Feirn, Jr., took their group Sarah Smart, Feirn Williams, and Brandon Feirn in their run to the 1150 Spot to search for marlin. They caught and released Two Striped Marlin in the 100 to 120-pound range on Ballyhoo.

The following day, on the”VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram, Captain Roberto Sandez, and Mate MARIO J. headed straight for the 1150 Spot where their group of anglers from Moore, Oklahoma, Brooklyn Chancellor, Chloe Scroggins, Keisha Chancellor, Marissa Chancellor, Travis Chancellor, and Trisha Chavez, caught and released One 174-pound Blue Marlin on caballito.

Captain Bruce and Mate Jose G. on the “REBECCA,” a 31-foot Bertram, found Two hungry Yellowfin Tuna for their couple, Debbie Moertl and Thomas Moertl, from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The fish weighed 42 and 94 pounds and bit a curry at the Herradura. 

“LA CHINGONA,” a 46-foot Viking with Captain TOÑO Bojorquez, released Two Striped in the 100 to 120-pound range on Ballyhoo and Two Yellowfin Tuna around 30 pounds on curry and palo at the Herradura.

On “MY WAY,” a 45-foot Viking, Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue found both an 80-pound Striped Marlin and a 180-pound Blue Marlin at the 95 Spot that their anglers George Garvey, Isabel Rohrer, Jamie Witherspoon,  Jon Rohrer, Mary Garvey, Patrick McPolin, and Paul McPolin from Rolling Hills Estates, California, caught and released on Ballyhoo.

Then Wednesday, Captain Roberto Sandez, Fernando Noyola, and Mate Mario Juarez located 18 Yellowfin Tuna four miles outside the 95 Spot for their anglers, Donald Goldman and Karen Barton, from Victoria, Texas, on the “VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram. The fish took palos, lures, cuchi, and plumas, and weighed 5 to 105 pounds.

On the 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, “KNOT WORKIN,” Captain Israel and Mate Abraham took their group, Brandon Nelson, Haley Nelson, Hallie Kogler, Kristen Nelson, Michael Nelson, and Presley Gandy outside the 95 Spot, where they released One hungry 100-pound Striped Marlin that took a red lure and a 150-pound Blue Marlin that bit the same lure at the exact location.

 “CALIENTE,” the 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Jaime and Mate Luis running the boat, headed outside the 95 Spot, where they scored Two Striped Marlin and Two Sailfish. Their angler, Jaime Gonzalez, released all four fish that had bit on dead caballito. The Striped Marlin weighed 90 to 100 pounds, and the two Sailfish weighed around 60 pounds.

“HOT ROD,” a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge with Captain Erick Orozco in charge and Hot Rod Jose Ramiro Ramirez overseeing the cockpit, ran 32 miles outside the 120 Spot to find their angler, Erick Orozco from California, 15 Yellowfin Tuna weighing up to 80 pounds with lures (Rapalas) and a 200-pound Blue Marlin on a Petrolero Lure, which he released

Captain Israel and Mate Abraham, on the “KNOT WORKIN,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, took their Bakersfield, California group, Derek Hodsons,  Emiliano Maldonado, and Jose Maldonado, to the 95 Spot. There, they caught and released One Striped Marlin weighing 100 pounds that hit curry and petrolero and Two Yellowfin Tuna from 30 to 117 pounds that hit cuchy, curry, and guacamole lure at the 95 Spot.

 “KARINA,” a 30-foot Bertram, with Captain Orlando Murillo and Mate Jorge Velez fishing with Angela Bingham, Chad Bingham, Chris Hoover, Lisa Hoover, and Naomi Odenwald, from Littleton, Colorado, where they caught and released One 90-pound Striped Marlin and Two Blue Marlin weighing around 180 to 150 pounds on curry and caballito between the 1150 and the 95 Spots.

“LA BRISA,” a 31-foot Bertram run by Captain Bruce and Mate Jesus Winkler, found Two Striped Marlin weighing around 77 to 90 pounds at the 95 Spot that gobbled up a Ballyhoo and a caballito for Anthony Hood, Brad Hood, Brock Drobker, Dora Hood, from Oregon.

On the “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, Captain Fernando Noyola was at the helm, and Mate Marcelo D. was running the cockpit when they found One Sailfish weighing approximately 100 pounds Seven miles outside of the Faro for their anglers Kaul Jackson, Ken McElroy,  and Tyler Muckelroy who released the fish after it hit a caballito.

The captains and crews have been remarkable in their ability to go to the correct locations to find the fish the clients sought. Once again, our fleets managed to capitalize on the remarkable variety of game fish in our waters.
